Notes on Chas Hook Gordon Logie 1810-1866. In the year 1839 came from London with a letter of introduction from Lord Glenelg of the Home Office, London to Sir Geo. Gibbs the Governor of N.S.W. at Sydney Australia. Appointed A.D.C. to Governor Hobson (lst Governor of N.Z.) and came to Russell N.Z. in 1839 with Hobson - Was present at the famous Treaty of Wailangi with the Maoris when Auckland was proclaimed capital of NZ. In 1840, Logie accompanied Hobson to Auckland. There is a water colour painting in the Hockew Library, Dunedin of the proclamation of Auckland to be the capital of NZ and there are Governor Hobson and a few officials around the flag-pole. Logie was present at this ceremony & is mentioned by name with a few Historical Notes. Afterwards when the Governor died at Auckland, Logie joined the Colonial Service and held appointments of the officer-in-charge customs Dept at Wellington & Nelson, was then finally appointed to Dunedin as Commissioner of Customs, Postmaster-Receiver of Land Revenue - Habour Master - Sub. Colonial Treasurer as well as Lay reader in the Anglican Church to the time of his death in Dunedin in 1866.
