In 1915, Mary's brother, George, wrote, "the writer must pause to make tribute to his dear sister 'Alice', one of the sweetest disposition imaginable, like her Grandfather, Charles Walton. From about 14 yrs of age, she suffered every winter with violent attacks of Acute Inflammatory Rheumatism, which early attacks the heart. Her pain was intense, yet she never complained
