George W. Ray Jr. of Delta died on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at his residence. He was 82.
He was born on April 15, 1921, in Balko, Okla., to George and Ona (Bowlby) Ray Sr. He moved to Delta in 1928 and graduated from Delta High School in 1939. He attended Colorado A & M College in Fort Collins for one year prior to being drafted. He served in the Army during World War II with the 405th Infantry in Europe and Africa. He received the Bronze Star.
Mr. Ray married Lois Lucille Carlson on Nov. 4, 1942, in Delta. She preceded him in death.
He was a rural postal carrier for 38 years. He was a member of Delta United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #1235, where he had been an exalted ruler and district deputy grand exalted ruler, a member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM #62, the Scottish Rite, Order of Eastern Star, VFW Post #3571 of Delta, and the 102nd Infantry Division Association. He served as a Demolay and Rainbow dad.
Mr. Ray enjoyed bowling, reading, fishing, playing golf and shooting trap.
He is survived by a son and his wife, George and Susan Ray III of Arvada; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Moe Bond of Delta; a sister and her husband, Wanda and Avery Pollock of Austin; a brother and his wife, Don and LaVerne Ray of Grand Junction; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ray; a brother, Clyde Ray; and a sister, Dorothy Ritthaller.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 28, at Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.

Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery handled the arrangements.
