David Wellington Bennett
Born in Doniphan County, Kansas, May 25th, 1858 on a farm and attended public schools. At the age of fifteen started farming for myself in Doniphan County. In the fall of 1876 I farmed one crop at Philips County, Kansas then returning to Doniphan County in the fall of 1878. I went to American Fork, Utah the Spring of 1879 and worked at the logging business in American Fork Canyon for three seasons and one season in Preston Canyon east of Alpine. Was married to Eliza S. Logie, December 9th, 1883. Returned to Doniphan County, January 1884 and farmed there for two seasons. Worked on the grade on the Rockioland Railroad building through Kansas from June 15th to January 15th then moved to Benedict, Nebraska, lived there two seasons. Immigrated back to Utah in 1890. Ran sawmill in Box Elder Canyon three seasons, east of Alpine and lived in American Fork. I then moved to Mercur, where I resided until 1913. Was in freight Transfer and Coal Business for three years then sold coal business and continued in the other business, until the railroad left Mercur. Then purchased the Livery stable in connection with the other business and got a four-year contract carrying the mail from Mercur to St. John Station on the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Company. Also run a stage in connection with mail route. Was City Councilman for two-year terms and one four year term. Moved to the ranch in Fort Canyon March 1913. Now living with my son, Dewey Logie Bennett in Alpine.
