Charles Harrison Drew was born in Copperopolis, California to David Lewis and Helen Farrar Drew. He left home while still in his teens and found his way to the ore mines high in the mountains east of Alpine, Utah.
While working in the mines, he met a young lady from Alpine named Elizabeth 'Libby' Bennett. Libby worked in the mne's food center as a server and a cook. The young couple dated and eventually married in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Charles left the mines to work hauling ore, coal, timber and other supplies between the mines in central Utah and Salt Lake City. He owned his own wagon and horse team but the pay was low.
The family lived in Alpine, Mammoth and Salt Lake City. Five children were born in the Drew family but unfortunately, two of the daughters, Pearl and Gladys, died before reaching the age of two.
Charles died at a young age in Salt Lake City. He is buried in Alpine, Utah in the same plot as his daughters, Pearl and Gladys, his parent-in-law's and his wife.
