Jeremiah Mulford, Sr. of Newark. Will 8/29/1791, proved 5/19/1795. Sons Jeremiah, Benjamin; grandson Daniel, son of Benjamin; granddau. Mary [d/o son Daniel, dec'd.]; grandchildren James Campbell, Hannah Campbell, Lidiah Campbell, Patience Campbell [parents not named].Grandchildren Thomas Mulford and Serepta Mulford [parents not named]. [ Note: son Daniel was deceased at time of this will; his identity as a son of Benjamin is established by the mention of his father in his own will. ] The testator's wife is not named; most likely she was deceased. Exrs.: son Jeremiah and friend David Littell, Esq. Wit.: Phebe Mulford and Jane Clark.
Martha Baker was d/o Thos. Baker of Elizabeth ?-1755 or 1756 (see his will), and his w. Martha _____. The Bakers had come to Elizabeth from East Hampton.
Jeremiah was in Newark, Essex, New Jersey at the time of the 1780 Census. His son Benjamin was also there at the same time.

Jeremiah Mulford inventoried the estate of John Cooper of Elizabeth, tailor, 4/11/1753. [Will of John Cooper, 1/30/1753, proved 3/29/1753. Wife Mary; children William, Caleb (both underage) and Martha. Brother-in-law, Rev. Caleb Smith; sister Jane.]
Jeremiah is mentioned in one entry in the Index to Liber C (1740-1752), Essex Co. Court Minutes, as follows: "Jer. Mulford, 46.

Will of Jeremiah Mulford... New Jersey, Post Revolutionary Documents
1791, Aug. 29. Mulford, Jeremiah, Sr., of Newark Twsp., Essex Co.; will of. Son, Jeremiah, bible and 30 pounds. Son, Benjamin, blue coat and vest which he is to keep for his son Daniel. Granddaughter, Mary Mulford, bed and 30 pounds. Grandchildren, James Campbell, Hannah Campbell, Lidiah Campbell and Patience Campbell, each 5 pounds. Grandchildren, Thomas Mulford and Serepta Mulford, legacy remaining due from will of father. Cash legacies to be paid from bond held against son Jeremiah. Executors -- son Jeremiah Mulford and friend David Littell, Esq. Witnesses -- Phebe Mulford and Jane Clark. Proved Jan 19, 1795.

bullet  Burial Notes:

The gravestone of Jeremiah Mulford, who died "in his 78th year" has a pear-faced soul effigy reminiscent of the style of cutter Uzal Ward of Newark, but its tympanum is additionally decorated with swirls. The inscription reads:
"This body in the dust we lay,
The soul to God has winged her way.
We hope in Christ they will meet,
And reign with him in joys complete."
