General Notes:
On October 10, 1839, Joseph Mulford purchased land in the north-northwest portion of Section 8, in Township 1, Range 8, located in Shelby County, Ohio from David and Ann Campbell, for the some of Eight Hundred Dollars. Here he resided until his death from Scarlet Fever, which occurred on the 8th day of June 1850. Joseph Mulford lies buried in the Old Indian Creek Cemetery in Perry Township, just north of Pemberton, in Shelby County, Ohio. His widow, Elizabeth Mulford, lived on until sometime after the 1860 Ohio Federal Census. On the 1850 census she is listed as owning property valued at Fifteen Hundred Dollars. Living with her in the 1860 census is a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Mulford, and also a Genra Mulford, age 4, relationship unknown. Also living in the Mulford household is a Jane Johnston, aged 69, whose relationship is also not known, but possibly she could be Elizabeth Mulford's sister. To Joseph and Elizabeth Mulford were born nine children: John C., Harvey, James D., Rebecca, Amos S., David, Russell B., Mary and Elizabeth Mulford. Deed records in Shelby County, Ohio between 1852 and 1855 record transactions between John C. Mulford and his siblings pertaining to his purchasing each of their one-ninth interest in their father's land.
*********The 1880 Federal Census showing Joseph's son, Russell, states that Russell's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother was born in Ireland.
