Virginia taught in one-room schools in Madera County before her marriage. John S. Moore was a board member - his son was Billy S. Moore. Teachers were not allowed to be marry, so they courted for 5 years. When their youngest child started school, she returned to teaching at Jefferson Elementary School in Clovis district, Fresno Co., and taught 3rd grade until retirement at age 62 when her BSM had a serious heart attack. They enjoyed 15 years of retirement before his death.
Virginia wrote extensively about her family and early life. Those pieces are collected and printed in a book available to family members. After retiring, she had taken up creative writing as a hobby.
Virginia loved teaching and was very good at it. She had known intuitively to combine art with geography, music with history, spelling with reading, etc., to give them all more meaning. She knew it was time to retire when young principals told her she was doing it wrong.

Virgina married Billy Summers Smith Moore on 23 Jun 1934 in Garfield Colony, Clovis, Fresno, California. (Billy Summers Smith Moore was born on 18 May 1908 in Montebello, Los Angeles, California and died on 19 Jun 1985 in Fresno, Fresno, California.)
