Will of Thomas 5 Mulford:
In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Mulford of the Township of Union,intheCounty of Essex and State of New Jersey, being weak in body, butofsoundand disposing mind, memory, and understanding, Do make, andpublishthismy last will and testament, in manner and form following --
ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Denman, wifeofAaronDenman, of the City of Philadelphia, the sum of onethousanddollars, toher, her heirs, executors, adminsitrators or assigns;I alsogive andbequeath to the said Elizabeth Denman all my householdfurniture,whichbequest of the said sum of one thousand dollars, and thesaidhouseholdfurniture, I give to my said daughter Elizabeth Denman, forhershare andportion of my estate.
ITEM I give, and bequeath to Margaret Chandler, now the wifeofJohnChandler (formerly the wife of my son James C. Mulford nowdeceased)thesum of one hundred dollars, for her share and portion of myestate.
ITEM I give and bequeath to my grandaughter Phebe, now the wifeofElihuPrice Junior, the sum of one hundred dollars, for her shareandportionof my estate.
ITEM I do hereby manumit and set free my coloured man Joseph, atthetimeof my decease, and I do give and bequeath unto him the saidJosephthesum of twenty five dollars.
ITEM All the remainder of my estate both real and persoanl (exceptwhatishereinbefore given and bequeathed to my said daughterElizabethDenman,and the said Margaret Chandler, and the said Phebe Price,and mysaidcoloured man Joseph, I give, bequeath, and Devise, unto mysonJonathanMulford, his heirs and assigns forever --
ITEM It is my will, and I do hereby direct my executorhereinafternamed,as soon as conveniently may be after my decease, to payand settleall mydebts and funeral expenses; and also to pay and satisfyunto thesaidElizabeth Denman, Margaret Chandler, Phebe Price, and mysaidcolouredman Joseph, the said several bequests, or legacieshereinbeforementioned-- and I do hereby charge all my lands and real estate with the paymentofthesaid several legacies --
LASTLY I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son JonathanMulford,thesole executor of this my last will and testament, herebyrevokingandannulling all former wills by me heretofore made. In witnesswhereof,Ihave hereunto set my hand and seal, this twenty second dayofNovember,in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred andthirty-- 1830.

This will was proved January 12, 1831 on the testimony of witnessJohnJ.Chetwood, and the executor, Jonathan Mulford, was sworn in.
Capt. Thomas Mulford appears in the Jan. 1779 and Feb. 1780tablesofratables for Essex Co. (Elizabeth Town Ward). In 1779 he appearedasahouseholder without any additional property listed; in 1780 healsohadtwo horses and two cows.
Thomas inherited his father's farm and tanyards and passed them ontohisson Jonathan.

Thomas Mulford wit. will of Abner Tooker of Elizabeth, 1/8/1806.
Thomas Mulford inv. est. of Joseph Hinds of Elizabeth, 9/9/1808.
Thomas Mulford wit. will of William Williams of Union Twp.,EssexCo.,10/20/ 1813, proved 4/9/1816.
Thomas Mulford was co-exr. of will of William Miller ofUnionTwp.,8/29/1816.
The 9/7/1830 pension application of Benjamin MulfordidentifiedThomasMulford of Essex Co. as Benjamin's brother, then aged 80;JonathanasThomas's son, living in Essex Co. in 1810; and Benjamin W.MulfordasJonathan's son, living in Essex Co. in 1830.
Though he was a Revolutionary veteran, Thomas does not seem tohavefileda pension application himself.
