bullet  General Notes:

Benjamin's Revolutionary War pension application in 1830 named just one child, Lewis, who had a family and was living in New York City at that time. By the 1850 census, Lewis was living in Elizabeth (the part thatlater became Roselle) with his family.
His obituary read: "The death of Lewis Mulford of Roselle, the father of Judge David Mulford, occurred yesterday at the advanced age of87years.Mr. Mulford was one of the oldest men in the township. His death was very sudden, he being around as usual until a few hours before he died. He has been complaining for some years back of rheumatism and a cough, but has not been confined to the house until the last two or three weeks. His faculties, especially his memories of events which occurred early in life, remained good to the last. He was born and brought up in the neighborhood, and with the exception of a few years spent in New York state has always lived here. He was a worthy citizen and highly respected. All who knew him will bear testimony to the fact of his beinga good neighbor, honest, and upright in his dealings, and an industrious and practical farmer. His farm, which has become very valuable(being in the heart of Roselle) has been in the family for several generations, and will go to his only son, David."
The name of son Moses Williams Mulford suggests that Charlotte's father could have been a Moses Williams; to be checked.

In testamony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of May in the year A. D. 1875. [signed] Lewis Mulford. Witnesses: Noah Woodruff and Frederick Terhune. Proved 6 April 1877 at Elizabeth, when the two executors were sworn in. The date of Lewis's death is noted in the Surrogate's record of probate as Feb. 15,1877, differing by two days from some other accounts.
Lewis and Charlotte were profoundly and tragically unlucky in the health of their children. Four died before reaching the age of five years, and two others never made it out of their teens. Only one, David 7,grew to adulthood and married. To David's wife Charity, a daughter of Townley Mulford, Lewis left his whole estate. Why to her and not to David?
Lewis's grave apparently is not at Evergreen with those of his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. is this true? If so, where is he buried?
