Of Josiah we have simply the one incident related by his sister Sally to Henry Talmadge on 8/12/1846 ---- When the news came to Branford that British had landed at New Haven, Josish immediately mounted his horse, took his gun and powder and ball and provisions and started fo rNew Haven and met them in Mark Lane. He fought till they got his horse from him and then he fought till he recovered his horse and the British retreated to their ships. He fired at them from behind a post orstump and the post stood for several years with the bullet holes in it that were shot at him. He returned home in safety after being absent three or four days.
